Removing Handprints On Wall

At some point everyone has found oily fingerprints on the wall. You don’t need to hide these smudges try one of these methods to remove the dirt. (Always perform a spot test first before using the products.)

How to Clean Smudges off the Wall with Dish Soap

One of the easiest ways to get rid of handprints is with dish soap. Be sure to use a soap that is designed to cut grease.

You’ll need:

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • A bucket
  • Warm water
  • A microfiber cloth

In the bucket, mix a few drops of the dishwashing liquid with warm water.

Dampen the cloth with the cleaning solution and wash the stain until you can’t see it any longer.

Let the wall dry to make sure any oily residue has been removed.   Repeat if needed.

Removing Handprints with Vinegar

You’ll need:

  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Warm water
  • A bucket
  • Microfiber cloths

In the bucket, mix ½ cup of vinegar with ½ gallon of very warm water.

Dampen a cloth with the solution and wipe the oily fingerprints.

Rinse the area with warm water — no vinegar this time — before drying it with a clean cloth. Repeat if needed.

Cleaning Oily Fingerprints with Chalk

It’s true, you can clean oily fingerprints with chalk (its porous and can absorb oil). You’ll need:

  • A stick of white chalk - Be sure your chalk has a soft edge (so it doesn’t scratch wall).
  • A microfiber cloth

Once your chalk is ready, rub it over the fingerprints and let sit 5-10 minutes.

Gently wipe away the residue with a dry microfiber cloth. You should see some chalk adhering to the oily fingerprints or handprints on the wall.

Lightly dampen the cloth, and wipe away the remaining chalk and the smudges themselves.

Let the area dry. Repeat the above instructions if you still see fingerprints.
