SYCAMORE – This Saturday and Sunday, DeKalb County residents will have the opportunity to get tested for the novel coronavirus through a pop-up testing site.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is hosting a mobile COVID-19 testing site at the DeKalb County Health Department, 2550 N. Annie Glidden Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

There is no cost for testing and anyone can be tested, regardless of symptoms or health insurance. The test is a simple nasal swab, according to a news release from the health department. If you have health insurance, the department asks you to bring your card; however, those without health insurance will also be tested.

Those who get tested will receive their results within four to seven days, the release states.

In addition to COVID-19 tests, those who participate this weekend will also get a free community kit which includes cloth masks, a thermometer, tissue and antibacterial hand wipes.

For additional testing locations, visit the IDPH website at https://dph.illinois.gov/covid19/covid-19-testing-sites.

On Friday, the Illinois Department of Public Health marked the county at a warning level, the cause in part due to spikes in cases linked to Northern Illinois University campus.

As of Friday, the county is at 122 new positive cases per 100,000 people - up from 57 the week before. The target is at 50 per 100,000. Also, the positivity rate shot up last week from 4.9% to 8.4%, over the target of 8%, and on Friday President Lisa Freeman announced all classes would go to online-only for two weeks.
