Letter: Let's get involved and vote

To the Editor:

I, like most have been following the political theater, or as it is sometimes referred to, “The Conventions.”

The rhetoric in many cases is brutal, mean spirited and devastating. I've heard campaign dialog over the years that could be both personal and at times biting but never to this extent. For the past 60 plus years I've been a loyal Republican, even voted for Nixon.

But no longer. My party has been taken over by a Hitleristic narcissist, with the support of the “Brown Shirted” wing of his party. A group that preys on peoples basic fears. A party that through executive control will make every attempt it can to stifle voting, or at the worst make it near impossible given the current pandemic.

This Republican bloc sees a similarity with many Americans to the German people of that time. During the 1930's the “brown shirts” went about crushing all opposition to gain complete control. In Germany, these same “brown shirts” found their country men complacent and not wanting to get involved. Saw them turn a blind eye to the events, take the easy way out. Is that what we will do? Believe it or not, it can happen here. Our democracy with all it's freedoms can be lost. Only we, you and I can stop this. We possess the weapon that scares those would be tyrants the most, and that weapon is the vote. So lets rally the troops and fight. Get involved, vote!
