SYCAMORE - A Genoa man is facing charges after police say he sexually abused an underage person at least five years younger than him in 2017.

Jacob C. Svenkerud, 25, of the 100 block of North Stott Street in Genoa, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and was arrested on the charges by DeKalb County Sheriff's deputies Aug. 28. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison and fines up to $25,000.

According to DeKalb County court records, the sexual abuse occurred between March 5 and June of 2017, and involved a person who was older than 13 but younger than 17.

Police reports from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office show the alleged victim told police she met Svenkerud when she was 15 and they engaged in a sexual relationship for four months.

During a bond hearing Aug. 29, Circuit Court Judge Robbin Stuckert issued a $5,000 recognizance bond for Svenkerud, who was released on his signature.

He's set to appear at the DeKalb County courthouse for a status hearing at 9 a.m. Oct. 23, records show.
