The Sycamore American Legion Riders, Genoa American Legion Riders, Heartland Hospice and DeKalb County Forty and Eight will honor DeKalb County’s senior veterans by having a motorcycle/motorcade parade of vehicles on Saturday, Aug. 1.
Anyone with a motorcycle, car, truck or any street legal vehicle is encouraged to participate. While honoring senior veterans, the parade will also show respect to all seniors, healthcare workers and first responders at each facility visited.
Veteran and nonveteran participants are invited to be in the parade of vehicles.
Rain or shine, staging for the parade will be at Hy-Vee, 2700 DeKalb Ave. in Sycamore from 8:15 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. followed by a safety briefing at 9 a.m.
The parade will travel to eight different senior living facilities in DeKalb and Sycamore. Vehicles will be decorated with American flags and other patriotic items. Parade participants will honk their horns as they drive around each senior living facility twice.
After the parade, participants are invited to attend a POW/MIA ceremony at the Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. in Genoa.
This parade will be the 13th annual Veterans Weekend, which started on July 26, 2008, at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport.
