While the local coronavirus case count surpassed 300 Friday, the DeKalb County Health Department reported nearly half of those cases have recovered.

The county health department announced eight new cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday, surpassing the 300-case mark in the county.

The count rose to 307 cases countywide, and 126 recoveries as of Friday after 29 new recoveries were announced in the health department's weekly recovery report.

In all, the county has performed 3,148 tests, a positivity rate of 9.8% as of Friday.

There was a new case among residents under 19, two new cases in residents in their 20s and 40s, and one new case each in a resident in their 50s, 60s and 70s. There remained three deaths among county residents after the number was revised downward on Thursday due to a residency discrepancy.

According to the latest data on the county site, DeKalb is reporting between 136 and 140 cases, up from Thursday. Sandwich is reporting between 41 and 45 cases. Sycamore has between 36 and 40 cases, Genoa has between 26 and 30 cases, and Cortland has between 21 and 25. Kingston and Hinckley are reported to have between six and 10 cases. Kirkland, Esmond, Malta, Maple Park, Shabbona, Somonauk and Waterman each report between one and five cases.

Including the new cases in DeKalb County, there have been 20 COVID-19 occurrences in residents younger than age 19, 75 in their 20s, 64 in their 30s, with 57 in their 40s, 53 in their 50s, 18 in their 60s, 15 in their 70s and five in residents over 80.

The Illinois Department of Public Health lists cases and tests by ZIP code, while the county health department lists cases by municipality. Numbers vary from state and health departments due to data lags. The 60135 ZIP code, which includes Genoa, has 25 confirmed cases and 264 tests administered. The 60115 ZIP code went up to 137 confirmed cases and 1,330 tests, while the 60178 ZIP code has 38 confirmed cases and 592 tests.

In total, IDPH reports 105,444 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 4,715 people have died statewide. As of Friday, 697,133 tests have been performed.

COVID-19 testing is being conducted at Northwestern Medicine health system hospitals and private lab facilities, including through Physicians Immediate Care and the Center for Family Health in Sycamore, which are prioritizing high-risk patients, first responders and health care workers and those experiencing severe symptoms.
