DeKalb County Community Gardens announced Grow Mobile events for Saturday, offering food assistance to DeKalb County residents.

One event is slated to run from 9:30 a.m. until 11 at Clinton Rosette Middle School, 650 N. First St., or until all the goods have been distributed. It will be a drive-thru, according to a news release, and individuals should have their cars ready to receive pre-packed boxes. They are to remain in their cars, and trunks and back of cars should be ready to receive the boxes from volunteers.

If you wish to participate, you only need to supply name, zip code and number of individuals in your household.

More than expected showed up for DCCG's food distribution events last week in Sandwich, the release stated, forcing the group to turn cars away, however, those who didn't receive meal boxes will get one later this week.

The group had prepared 75 boxes for distribution in Sandwich, up from the normal 45-55. More than 110 cars or households showed up and those who did receive any are expected to get deliveries later in the week.

Also Saturday, the Grow Mobile will be at the Malta Historical & Genealogy Society, 127 N. Third St., from 2 until 4 p.m.. There is also an event April 3 at University Village, 722 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb from 3 p.m. until 5 by the basketball courts.

DCCG is also working with Voluntary Action Center and Elder Care Services of DeKalb to ensure homebound seniors are receiving groceries and hot meals. DCCG has delivered grocery boxes to seniors with underlying health conditions who are not leaving their homes.

The Grow Mobile is also continuing its deliveries to Colonial House Apartments, 1600 N. 14th St., in DeKalb. If elderly individuals are need of grocery deliveries they can contact Elder Care Services at 815-758-6550. For hot meal deliveries contact Voluntary Action Center at 815-758-3932. Requests for groceries will be referred to DCCG.
