City of Sycamore will flush its hydrants in from April 13 through May 1, discoloration during flushing is normal

The city is flushing the hydrants to clean the water lines, discoloration during flushing is normal

The City of Sycamore is going to be flushing its area fire hydrants from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. between April 13 and May 1. The northern area will be done between April 13 and April 17. The southwestern area of town will be conducted between April 20 and April 24, and the area east of that will have its fire hydrants flushed between April 27 and May 1. SYCAMORE – The Sycamore Water Division wants to make residents aware it will flush fire hydrants between April 13 and May 1 throughout town.

Matt Anderson, assistant public works director for the City of Sycamore, said the flushing is to drain or clean out any potential rust or sediments that might be somewhere in the water. He said the flushing happens in the spring and fall and a heads up to residents if they they see any discoloration in their tap water, it's because of the flushing.

Flushing in each area will go from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 13 through May 1.

Anyone living or working in or near the areas may experience discolored water, the City of Sycamore Public Works Fire Hydrant Flushing Notice states.

The process will begin on April 13 and will run through the north side of town, which includes the area between Plank, Freed and Lindgren roads and State Street.

The next area, which will start April 20 and run through April 24, will include South Somonauk and South Locust streets, and Parkside and Ivan drives.

The final area, which will experience fire hydrant flushing, starts as far north as State Route 64 and runs through Lilac Lane, Parkside Drive and Dosen Drive.
