DeKALB - Two students at Northern Illinois University have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to a news release sent Wednesday.

One student is one of the two cases announced by the DeKalb County Health Department Wednesday, said NIU spokesperson Lisa Miner, and one is not, though Miner did not disclose the location of the other student.

The total cases in DeKalb County as of Wednesday remain 3.

Both students are currently in self-isolation and will not be able to return to their normal activities or to NIU until authorized by public health officials, the release states.

In the first case, one student was briefly on campus Monday, March 16 in Montgomery Hall and had "very little contact with others," the release states. The second student has not been on campus since Tuesday, March 3, but traveled recently with a small group of NIU students.

The release doesn't state where the second student traveled to or from.
