Coates: #DineOutDeKalb campaign helps local businesses

Anna Coates

We know these are tough and scary times for our community, but we are stronger when we work together.

COVID-19 has already made an impact on the greater DeKalb area but one of the good outcomes has been how our residents have come together to support each other! People are creating new and innovative collaborations to help us get through these times. You are a part of this! Thank you for your acts of kindness and willingness to help local businesses that are falling on hard times.

We at the DeKalb Chamber are working hard to spread awareness of members who are open right now with our #DineOutDeKalb campaign. Check out dekalb.org/dine-out-dekalb. This list is comprised of DeKalb Chamber member restaurants that are open while there is a mandatory shutdown of their dine-in areas. Our members are committed to our community, donating to countless nonprofits, fundraisers, local sports teams, and other local organizations. Can you think of a time when you asked for a donation and they helped? Well now it’s our turn to help them out!

We will come out of this better on the other side if we come together. If we don’t support local businesses now, we may not have them later. And as you know our local businesses are what help make our community so great and charming.

How can you help?

• Order pick-up or delivery. Many restaurants and retail stores have options to order online or over the phone. Check out their websites or social media. DeKalb.org has a business directory of community members who are invested in our community. Each has a profile with contact info, linking you to their website and social media in just a few clicks.

• #DineOutDeKalb tag it and share it! Check out @DeKalbILChamber on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for posts about local members and our #DineOutDeKalb contest. Share, comment or create your own post about the contest and where you ordered from to be entered. Remember to use the hashtag #DineOutDeKalb and tag us @DeKalbILChamber. For every share, comment or created post on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter, you will get one entry to win. We have more than 20 gift cards from participating restaurants to give, so don’t miss out!

• Check out these open DeKalb Chamber Restaurants: Barb City Bagels; Buffalo Wild Wings; Burritoville; China House; Common Grounds, Coffee and Books; Culver's (Sycamore); Culver's of DeKalb; Dunkin Donuts; Egg Haven Pancakes & Café; Ellwood Steak and Fish House; Fatty's Pub & Grille; Fushi Yami Hibachi & Sushi; Hillside Restaurant, Jamrah Middle Eastern Cuisine (Sycamore); Jimmy John's – DeKalb; Junction Eating Place; Khana Khazana; Lincoln Inn Restaurant (serving out of Faranda’s); Los Panchos Mexican Grill; Los Rancheros; Papa John's Pizza; Pizza Pro's; Pizza Villa; Rosita's Mexican Restaurant; Sonic Drive-in; Sycamore Tom & Jerry's featuring Catering by Diann; Tapa La Luna; Vinny's Pizza; and Wired Nutrition.

Our community needs your support! Remember to be kind! Ask an ill coworker, self-quarantined friend, or elderly neighbor if you can leave something for them outside their door to help them. Buy what you need. This time can be scary but think of the others who need items too.
