DeKALB – Northern Illinois volleyball sophomore middle blocker Jasmine Kemp of DeKalb was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
This is Kemp’s first career weekly conference honor. Kemp had 13 total blocks in NIU’s matches at Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan over the weekend. She opened the weekend by tying a career-high with nine total blocks, including three solo blocks, against Eastern Michigan on Friday night. Kemp then added four blocks against the division-leading Chippewas on Saturday. Over the past four matches, Kemp has averaged 1.64 blocks a set.
Kemp is the second Huskie to earn MAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors. Junior libero Maranda Karlen earned the award last week after averaging 5.50 digs a set in wins over Kent State and Ohio.
