SYCAMORE – A Rochelle man was charged with forgery after police say he deposited a series of forged checks into his own bank account.
Christopher Johnson, 36, of the
300 block of Erickson Road, was charged with forgery Wednesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest following an investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
According to court documents, Johnson forged a signature on three checks
totaling $6,800 between Sept. 5 and
Oct. 10. He deposited the money into his own account, according to court records.
The victim reported the alleged fraud to Resource Bank, and money was credited back into his account.
If convicted, Johnson could face up to three years in prison.
A DeKalb County judge ordered Johnson released on his signature Thursday. He is next due in court at 9 a.m. Dec. 20.
