To the Editor:
In response to Peter Gerlach's letter of Oct. 23, he seems to be more concerned with making someone look stupid than solving the problem at hand.
He states that for all practical purposes, no one in the U.S. has automatic weapons, nor can they get them.
If that's true, then what killed and maimed all those people in countless mass slayings across the country?
I'd like for Mr. Gerlach to explain that to the families of those who lost loved ones.
It makes no difference whether the weapons were "automatic" or "semi-automatic," they still shouldn't be out there.
You don't have to be educated on this subject to know they're made for killing, not for sport.
I support the right to own a gun, but no one besides the police or the military should have assault weapons. I think there is a difference.
