DeKALB – The Salvation Army is hoping to help families in need this holiday season, and will accept applications for Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance through Dec. 14.

Applications will be accepted in-person at DeKalb’s Salvation Army at
830 Grove St. (on the Grove Street entrance), and families interested should also provide photo identification, proof of address and (for Christmas applications only) documentation of children’s birthdays, which can be through a medical insurance card, birth certificate or school documentation.

The Grove Street location is open
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through
Thursday, with additional hours 5 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

Thanksgiving baskets will be distributed to families Nov. 26 through 27 by appointment, and Christmas toys will be distributed Dec. 18 and 19, the release shows.

Those interested in volunteering to sort food donations, pack Thanksgiving baskets or helping families choose toys for Christmas should call the Salvation Army at 815-756-4308.
