The Daily Chronicle obtained NIU's contractual agreement to play Nebraska in football for 2019, 2023 and 2027 through a Freedom of Information Act request. The contract is below.
The Huskies were originally slated to play at Nebraska in 2021, but the desire on the part of NIU Athletics and Huskies football to play a 2021 game for recruiting purposes in the southeast helped create the demand for a road game for the Huskies that still helped fulfill the financial needs of the University. NIU filled that need by scheduling a game in 2021 at Georgia Tech, which will pay NIU $1 million.
As is laid out in the contract, NIU is to be paid $1.2 million for the 2023 game and $1 million for a game now set for 2027.
Northern Illinois was paid $920,000 for the game they played in Lincoln earlier this season.
