SYCAMORE – The loose change that police said a burglar snuck away with after breaking into a couple of vehicles last week probably wasn’t worth as much as the items he left behind.
Will D. Wright, 22, of the 400 block of East State Street, is charged with burglary to a motor vehicle after police said he broke into two vehicles at a home in the 400 block of South Somonauk Street, according to court records.
If convicted, Wright could face up to seven years in prison.
Police said in court documents that Wright broke into the vehicles around 12:30 a.m. Sept. 26.
The owner said she thought some change was missing from them, but was unsure of the amount, according to court records. Police reported that Wright left his cellphone in one of the vehicles and a gray Nike hat in the other.
Sycamore Police tracked Wright down, and he later admitted to the burglaries in an interview, according to court records.
Wright has a previous DUI conviction in 2016, Judge Phillip Montgomery noted in court Tuesday.
Montgomery ordered Wright released on his signature. He’s next due in court at 9 a.m. Nov. 20.
