Prep roundup: DeKalb girls tennis picks up win; Sycamore golf wins; DeKalb volleyball splits

The DeKalb girls tennis team picked up a 5-2 win against Rockford East behind a dominant doubles performance.

The Barbs swept all four doubles matches, including Izy Meyers-Miller and Ashley Nelson winning, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1. Kayla Webb and Jayda Minniefield. Addie Lopez and Hoa Vo and Illanie Castorena and Camryn Mason also got doubles wins for DeKalb.

At No. 3 singles, Kayla Salas won 6-0, 6-0.


DeKalb wins tourney opener: The Barbs knocked off Buffalo Grove, 25-17, 25-19, at the Wheaton North invitational before losing to the hosts.

In the win, Julia O’Brien and Kallie Siebrasse had six kills each, with Avery O’Brien adding five kills. Bella Finch had 19 assists.

After the win against Buffalo Grove, the Barbs lost, 25-17, 25-23, to Wheaton North.

Siebrasse had seven kills and Finch 14 assists in the loss.

Hiawatha tops Westminster Christian: The Hawks won 25-19, 25-18.


Sycamore tops Ottawa: The Spartans picked up a road Interstate Eight win, 164-177, against Ottawa.

Iain Purdom carded a 40 to earn medalist honors. Nathan Cohn and Ian Macalister each shot a 41, and Sam Faulhaber shot a 42.

The Spartans improved to 2-0 in conference play.


H-BR volleyball falls to Sandwich: The Royals lost, 25-10, 25-12.

Kaneland tennis rolls past Glenbard North: The Knights won, 6-1, on the road.

The Knights swept singles behind Piper Schrepferman, Evie Taylor and Maddy Rizzuto. At doubles, Christel Lamera and Sofia Gonzalez Magnabosco, Ally Mitchinson and Sarah Nguyen, and Mia Bergman and Jenna Lin picked up wins.

“Only her third day playing varsity matches, Maddy is developing some serious pace on her groundstrokes and serves, and she is making some wise choices with where to land her shots,” coach Tim Larsen said. “Keep your eye on this young Kaneland player. She’s doing well.”
