DeKALB – Bread & Roses women’s chorus welcomes potential new members to visit a rehearsal from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb.
All women who love to sing are invited to attend a rehearsal to learn more. You will be placed with others of your voice part and can sing along, as well as ask any questions you may have. Those who decide to join, will be asked to contribute dues of $20 per semester at the next rehearsal.
Bread & Roses is a diverse group of around 25 women of varying ages, from various backgrounds. The chorus is based in DeKalb, but members travel from many surrounding areas including St. Charles, Kirkland and Huntley.
Many of the choir members read music, but it is not a requirement, as long as singers can match pitch and are willing to practice with a recording of their part. Bread & Roses is not affiliated with any church, and the singers come from a wide range of religious and secular backgrounds. The chorus is grateful to Westminster Presbyterian Church for welcoming them into their building.
Bread & Roses will rehearse each Sunday from 5:45 to 8 p.m. for the fall season (Aug. 18 – Nov. 23). The fall concert will take place the afternoon of Nov. 23 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The spring semester will run from March 1 to June 6..
The members of Bread & Roses are devoted to developing and enjoying musical skills, sharing them with each other and the community, and providing a community of women who deliver messages of peace and justice, protection of our fragile environment, diversity, women’s empowerment and acceptance for all. The choir is LGBT welcoming and invites all who identify as women and are able to sing treble voice parts.
