Environmental group to host public presentation on dangers

DeKALB – Residents wishing to learn how to make their homes safer are invited to a presentation on the dangers of indoor air pollution and what to do about it.

The free presentation called “Looking Inside Out: An Introduction to Indoor Air Quality” will begin at 5:10 p.m. June 6 in the City Council chambers at the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.

Sponsored by the city’s Citizens’ Environmental Commission, the event will include a presentation by William Oleckno, distinguished teaching professor emeritus from Northern Illinois University.

Oleckno will speak on the dangers of radon indoors, which can cause lung cancer, and other contaminants such as air fresheners. He’ll also offer strategies that homeowners and others can implement to reduce air pollution inside and reduce health side effects.
