NIU forward Austin Richie (32) shoots a three pointer against Ohio Bobcats guard Connor Murrell (10) during the first round of the 2019 MAC basketball tournament in DeKalb March 11.

Four Northern Illinois men’s basketball players are on their way out this offseason.

On Tuesday, NIU athletic communications confirmed that each Austin Richie, a freshman forward from Glenwood, Anastasios Demogerontas (who has planned to transfer since December) and Brandon Danowski of Wilmette will all transfer.

Danowski, a walk-on, will look to get on scholarship with a new program.

Per NIU athletic communications, Huskies coach Mark Montgomery will not comment on the transfers, echoing the sentiment expressed after Jaylen Key’s transfer, which was confirmed Monday.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Huskie win streak ended: NIU baseball had a three-game win streak going before succumbing to UIC on the road Tuesday, 8-3.

NIU took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning after a two-RBI single from Brendan Joyce.

Nick Drobushevich sacrifice fly. Jordan Larson and Jake Dunham each had two hits for the Huskies. NIU is now 7-17.

“It was a disappointing outcome today,” head coach Mike Kunigonis said. “We [ground] out three runs in the fifth to give ourselves a lead but it wasn’t enough. We’ll bounce back with a great day of practice tomorrow and be ready to go at Central Michigan this weekend.”

PREP BASEBALL

Spartans claim one over Harlem: Caleb Tonovitz pitched four innings of two hit ball, claiming the victory on the hill as Sycamore won, 5-1, Tuesday.

Matt Cusumano, Logan Riley and Gavin Crofoot each had multiple hits, and the Spartans played clean defensive baseball with zero errors.

GIRLS SOCCER

Barbs soccer falls: The DeKalb girls fell 1-0 to Freeport.

DeKalb (2-4) hosts Sycamore next Tuesday. The Spartan girls defeated Rockford Lutheran on Tuesday, 10-0.
