SYCAMORE – Gavin Anderson made a habit of smashing records on his way to not only the IHSA State Swimming and Diving Championships but also becoming the Daily Chronicle Swimmer of the Year.
“I came into the season, and I told myself ‘I want to get my name up on [record] boards,’” Anderson said. “There’s some pretty amazing swimmers up there.”
Coach Melanie Chambers knew he had a chance for a special season right off the bat.
“We knew right away, because he was already so fast coming into the year compared to last year,” Chambers said. “We thought he would hit a wall, but he just kept dropping time.”
