DeKALB – In the 72nd minute Tuesday night in the season opener, the DeKalb girls soccer team was running a set piece looking to tie the game against Belvidere North.
Twenty seconds later, the Blue Thunder were celebrating what would prove to be difference-making goal in a 2-1 win over the Barbs in the opener.
“I thought we had some good chances,” DeKalb coach Patrick Hamilton said. “We defined some roles. I think some players stepped up and played well. Naturally not the result we wanted, but we’re not an excuse making team. We’ll get better.”
