DeKALB – DeKalb baseball coach Jeff Davis was looking for a new approach to coaching the Barbs that differed from the one he used in 2005 when he took charge of the DeKalb softball program.
Davis held a meeting with his soon-to-be senior leaders to find out what they wanted from the baseball program under his leadership after their second straight season of 10 wins or fewer.
What the seniors wanted from Davis, who is assisted by his son, Josh, and pitching coach, Josh Latimer, was simple.
“Believe it or not, they said structure and discipline,” Davis said. “And I’m going, ‘You’re going to get a lot of that, because there’s certain things we don’t do.’ And they’re young high school boys. They need a little bit of structure. They need to be taught right from wrong. I think I have a pretty decent group here. I feel I’m pretty fortunate to come in with this group.”
