SYCAMORE – It’s a new coach for the Sycamore girls soccer team, but it’s the same high expectations for the Spartans this season.
Kevin Bickley, a former Kaneland assistant in both the boys and girls soccer programs, takes over for Dave Lichamer, who resigned at the end of last season. But that hasn’t squashed the expectations for the Spartans, who went 20-3 last year and had what they considered an early exit in a sectional semifinal.
Bickley said he found it surprising the team lost, 3-2, in a Class 2A Rochelle Sectional semifinal to Crystal Lake South.
“When we heard they got knocked out, we were obviously surprised,” Bickley said. “They had the team we thought that could go further than that. Burlington [Central] was another team that we thought, those two if they would have met would have been a good challenge. It was a little surprising on that end. But they’ll rebound from that, and it will push them; the hunger to get beyond that will be there for sure.”
