SYCAMORE – DeKalb County is soliciting bids for use of fiscal 2020 Senior Tax Levy funds, according to a news release from the county. Applications to request bids are due by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 25. The county expects to collect and distribute about $415,500 generated by this levy, the release said.
The DeKalb County Board has restricted the use of the funds to prevent premature institutionalization of seniors. Keeping seniors out of expensive nursing homes and hospitals results in an aggregate cost savings for taxpayers, the release said.
Fiscal 2019 funds were awarded to these nine agencies that provide services for seniors, Barb City Manor, Elder Care Services, Family Service Agency, Fox Valley Older Adult Services, Hope Haven, Kishwaukee Family YMCA, Opportunity House, Prairie State Legal Services and Voluntary Action Center.
