DeKalb School District 428 Board, Park District to discuss agreement

DeKALB – The DeKalb School District 428 Board will discuss a new intergovernmental agreement between District 428 and the DeKalb Park District on Tuesday night, according to the meeting agenda.

The agreement will be presented for information and discussion only, and not a vote, according to the agenda.

The agreement is in relation to shared benefits between District 428 and the Park District, some of which are the use of golf courses and driving ranges for the DeKalb High School golf team, use of parks and the pool for picnics and parties, as well as use of the Huntley Middle School pool for swim lessons and lifeguard classes.

District 428 staff recommend the board approves the agreement, according to the agenda. The Park District and District 428 have had several years of shared services, but in an informal capacity, and are now looking to solidify an intergovernmental agreement to support the ongoing relationship, according to the agenda.

Also on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting is a presentation by District 428 Finance Director Cynthia Carpenter on a history of tax rebate and abatement policies, after the District 428 approval during the Nov. 20 meeting to further pursue a tax levy option that would result in a $4 increase for taxpayers who own properties worth $150,000.

The District 428 Board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the District 428 Education Center at 901 S. Fourth St.

A public hearing for the tax levy is set for a Dec. 18 board meeting, Carpenter has said.
