DeKALB – Neighbors’ House will host its 14th annual Giving Thanks 5K on Thanksgiving Day at Hopkins Park.
The Nov. 22 race is part of a fundraising effort to promote academic and relational success for under-served students in DeKalb County.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. at Hopkins Park, and early bird registration is now open, according to a news release from the DeKalb-based nonprofit.
The 5K will also include a turkey costume contest, so participants should come fully decked out in gobble-day garb. Runners and walkers alike will have a chance to participate in a variety of raffle baskets before the race.
With headquarters at 403 N. Fifth St. in DeKalb, Neighbors’ House is a faith-based community development organization which serves DeKalb County students and families to provide academic and supportive programming for income-eligible housing communities.
Proceeds from the Giving Thanks 5K will go toward helping 200 DeKalb County students with homework and literacy aid through Neighbors’ House programming.
Event registration is online through the Neighbors’ House website. Participants can register before or on the day of the race. The cost is $32 a person. Those who register before hand receive a race T-shirt and chip-timing. Top female, male, and age category finishers will receive a medal and a prize. Water, hot chocolate, bananas and bagels will be available after the race.
