Are you looking for something different to do this weekend? Come to Genoa for the day, the night or the entire weekend!
If you have not visited Genoa lately, or even if you live in Genoa, I bet you didn’t know how many things there are to do here. Whether you are looking for family fun or something to do with friends, Genoa is the place to live, work and play. Whether you are looking to relax, get outdoors or indulge in great food ... we have you covered.
Looking to enjoy this great fall weather with some physical activity? Start your day off with a hike around the beautiful Russell Woods Forest Preserve (815-895-7191). Located along the Kishwaukee River, you can see plenty of wildlife and enjoy your day along the wooded trails and prairie path.
You can get a closer look at the Kishwaukee River by renting canoes from the Township of Genoa Park District (www.genoaparks.com). For only $30 a canoe, you can conveniently be dropped off and picked up for a day of fun and adventure on the water. Use the new canoe launch at Carroll Memorial Park for easy river access. Spend a few hours on the river or the entire day. For more outdoor adventures, check out Walcamp Outdoor Ministries (www.walcamp.org). Walcamp has everything from beautiful walking paths and canoeing to cabin rentals and paintball. There is something for the entire family. Pack a picnic and enjoy your day in one of DeKalb County’s best-kept secrets.
Once you have worked up an appetite, stop at one of our Genoa eateries. Have a taste for an amazing burger or Italian beef? The Corner Grill (815-784-2233) will have your mouth watering as soon as you walk in the door. You can choose to sit inside or take a seat on their beautiful outdoor patio. Corner Grill is the proud winner of the best burger in DeKalb County award. Looking for more of a northern Wisconsin feel? Stop by Karlsbad Tavern (815-784-6336) for their daily specials. The Friday night fish fry is a town favorite, and Saturday night’s prime rib special is out of this world. If you love Mexican food, then Rivers’ Mexican Cantina (815-784-2017) is a must stop. Featuring daily specials on meals and margaritas, they can satisfy any appetite with delicious and plentiful portions.
Also featuring delectable meals Thursday through Sunday is Prairie State Winery (www.prairiestatewinery.com). Try one of their award-winning wines at their tasting room, which is open daily. Have a seat on one of the leather couches or take a seat on the gorgeous patio. Stay awhile to visit with friends or buy a bottle to enjoy at home. Don’t miss out on their Bloody Marys and Blues specials on Sundays!
Just want dessert? Check out Pete’s Castle for the best ice cream around. One of Genoa’s oldest establishments, Hill’s Tap is always the place to be. Stop in at Hill’s for video gaming, pool, darts or shuffleboard.
Old Barn Salvage / Lloyd Landscape (www.oldbarnsalvage.com) is perhaps one of Genoa’s most unique treasures. Buy some beautiful fall mums or a great repurposed table ... they have a bit of everything cool! Celebrating 90 years in business is Tobinson’s Ace Hardware (815-784-6004). Tobinson’s has much more than just the helpful hardware people. They genuinely have a bit of everything and are now featuring locally made products, as well. Stop in for all your office or home needs. You will be happy you did.
If you’re looking for a little getaway, the Genoa Guest House (https://genoaguesthouse.com) is just the place for a weekend retreat. You’ll be pampered the minute you check into one of their welcoming rooms. Every detail in the Guest House is pure perfection, from the soft towels and modern chic décor to the gourmet meals and amazing hosts. It will be a visit you won’t soon forget.
