DeKALB – A plan to tear down the building used by Pizza Hut at 701 W. Lincoln Highway to build a multiuse building the franchise would partially occupy is up for a first reading vote by the City Council when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.
Julio Carrillo, who represents EYM Realty of Illinois LLC, filed the rezoning request to demolish the existing building and replace it with an about 6,400-square-foot space that will include a Pizza Hut restaurant offering carry-out and delivery only.
The pizzeria would occupy about a third of the building, leaving about 4,000 square feet of space for one or two new businesses. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the petitioner’s request without opposition during a May meeting.
Formulas designed to estimate parking for restaurants and commercial service facilities determined that there will need to be 35 parking spaces for the new building.
Also on Monday, council members will consider awarding a contract to hire a search firm.
The city still is searching for a permanent replacement for Anne Marie Gaura, who resigned as DeKalb’s city manager in March.
The city has received a number of proposals from search firms all over the county. After review and consideration by DeKalb Mayor Jerry Smith, 4th Ward Alderman Patrick Fagan and human relations staff, the search was narrowed to two firms: Northbrook-based GovHR USA and Georgia-based Slavin Management Consultants.
A contract for GovHR USA’s services would come at a cost not to exceed $21,000 while Slavin Management Consultants’ services would be for no more than $25,219. Gaura was paid more than $108,000 in parting benefits at the time of her departure.
Aldermen have five options: award a contract to one of the two firms, conduct the recruitment using a hybrid model of in-house and third-party services, conduct the recruitment using only internal resources, or allow council members additional time to consider options and search firm backgrounds.
The City Council meets in the council chambers of the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.
