MAPLE PARK – Families are invited to the 26th annual Pumpkin Pedal bike ride to support Special Olympics programs in Illinois.
The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Sycamore Speedway off Route 64 in Maple Park. Riders will have to start their trip by 10 a.m. to make sure roads are cleared by 3 p.m.
Cyclists are offered 10-, 20- and 26-mile rides along the Great Western Nature Trail in Sycamore. For more experienced riders, there will be 40- and 62-mile road rides stretching to western Kane County.
Along the trails, riders will find rest stops with snacks and emergency support, and there will be a post-ride meal at the speedway from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Riders’ $30 entry fee gets them a free small pumpkin and the meal.
Funds will support year-round training for the 2,000 Illinois athletes with intellectual disabilities involved with the Special Olympics Illinois Far West Suburban/Area 2.
