A man died in a house fire Sunday morning on Somonauk Street. Firefighters were called to the house at 4:43 a.m. for a report of a fire. When they arrived, the found the house partially engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the Sycamore Police Department. A man died as a result of the fire.
No one else was in the home at the time of the blaze. “Identification of the deceased is pending,” the release said. Investigators remained on the scene most of the morning.
DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller confirmed a man had died. An autopsy is set for Monday. The man’s name has not been released. The property had working smoke alarms at the time of the fire, according to the release. Damage is estimated at 50,000. The Sycamore Fire Department is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
The State Fire Marshal Office is assisting in the investigation, according to the release.
Firefighters from DeKalb, Cortland, Genoa-Kingston, Elburn, Hampshire and Burlington assisted the Sycamore Fire Department, according to the release.
