Comedian Ralphie May to perform at Egyptian Theatre

DeKALB – Veteran stand-up comedian Ralphie May will bring his "Unruly Tour" – featuring a raw, uncensored set – to DeKalb's historic Egyptian Theatre in April.

May is set to perform at 8 p.m. April 15, at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., DeKalb, according to a news release from the theater.

May is a 25-year veteran of the business. His most recently comedy special was released by Netflix in February 2015 – at the same time as “House of Cards.”

“That’s the biggest launch in Netflix history,” May said in a news release. “The wave for ‘House of Cards’ is a tsunami and I’m the fat guy trying to body surf. These guys are taking me to the middle of the country. They’re taking me into people’s homes. I’m the luckiest guy in America.”

May is touring North America.

“When I was a kid, my grandmother taught me how to crochet and how to quilt, and that’s kind of how I do an act,” May said in a news release. “I have one-liners, I have dirty jokes, but I also have long stories that are 10 or 20 minutes long and the laughs come every eight seconds. It’s a different set. And it’s a different life than most people have led.”

Tickets for May’s performance go on sale at 10 a.m. today to Friends of the Egyptian Theatre members. Tickets for the general public go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Reserved ticket prices are $25 to $50 and a student discount is available. The show is for mature audiences only.

Tickets are available at www.egyptiantheatre.org, by phone at 815-758-1225 or in person at the Egyptian Theatre Box Office.
