SYCAMORE – A DeKalb man wanted on outstanding misdemeanor warrants was arrested when he showed up Thursday at the DeKalb County Courthouse, but was able to escape before he was taken to jail.
Officials at the DeKalb County Circuit Clerk’s office notified DeKalb County Sheriff’s court security deputies that Stephen Harris, 25, of the 900 block of Edgebrook Drive in DeKalb, was in the office. Harris had two outstanding warrants for theft and another for failure to appear in court on a marijuana possession ordinance violation. A deputy went to the office and took Harris to the court’s Security Station, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Harris was cooperative at first, but while the deputy was getting additional information about the warrants, Harris ran from the Security Station and out of the courthouse. Deputies chased the man, but were unable to apprehend him. Dispatchers notified Sycamore police and Sheriff’s Office patrol units, who searched the area, but were unable to find him.
Harris could face additional charges for escape and resisting arrest, according to the news release.
