Ethan Hastert takes next step to run for Congress

DeKALB – Ethan Hastert has announced he’ll run for his father’s old seat in Congress.

Hastert, 31, said this afternoon that he’s forming a committee to begin his campaign and fundraising for the 14th District Congressional seat.

Although he’s never run for office, Hastert said he’s been around the process through his father’s political career. Dennis Hastert, who represented the 14th District from 1987 to 2007 – serving as Speaker of the House for a portion of his term.

Bill Foster, D-Batavia, won a special election and the general election to fill his spot. Foster said this afternoon that he hasn’t decided if he’ll run for re-election.

Ethan Hastert, an attorney who lives in Elburn and grew up in Yorkville, said he wants to be part of the “next generation of leadership” in the district.
