A 16-year-old boy was injured Saturday afternoon when he was hit by a train in Hinckley. According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, the boy suffered leg injuries and was taken by helicopter to Loyola Hospital in Maywood. Police are not releasing the minor's name due to confidentiality laws. The boy's condition was unavailable. Officers and emergency teams were called around 5 p.m. Saturday about the accident that occurred south of the 400 block of Route 30, behind the Dairy Joy Ice Cream Shop. Hinckley Police Chief David Walker said the boy may have been trying to cross the track. Walker said he has begun interviews with the boy and witnesses about the accident. An attempt to reach representatives of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Monday was not successful. The accident is being investigated by BNSF and the Hinckley Police Department.
