3 factors to consider when choosing a kitchen table

SPONSORED

Need a new kitchen table but aren’t sure which one is right for your home? Here are some tips to keep in mind before making your purchase:

1. Durability

The kitchen table is likely to be common gathering spot. To that end, make sure to choose one that can hold up to regular day-to-day use. For instance, while furniture made from medium density fiberboard, or MDF, may be inexpensive, it is not likely to last very long. A table made from solid hardwood, however, can last for decades. Both glass and marble tabletops can also provide years of durability. The latter, however, has to be taken care of properly as marble can be vulnerable to scratches and stains.

2. Shape

Tables come in a variety of shapes. A rectangular dining table shape tends to be a popular choice because it can fit larger groups, especially if there is an extra leaf to extend the length. Oval tables are also ideal for seating a lot of people. And design experts say the rounded edges create the illusion of taking up less floor space. If you don’t regularly host large groups of people a square shaped table which can be expanded with leaves can be an ideal solution. Another option for smaller areas is a round table. According to design experts, the circular shape offers flexible seating and helps to create a sense of intimacy.

3. Balance

Make sure you strike the right balance between the table’s size and amount of available space. The table needs to allow enough room for people not only sit at it but also get around it. Measure the room in order to get a better understanding of the size of table that will work best in your space.
