I believe that there is something in every religion of the world that can help us on our journey toward peace, health and happiness. One philosophy that I recently read about is the idea of “The Middle Way,” which comes from Buddhism. This concept can help us gain and understand the need for balance in our lives.

For his continued advocacy of multiple sclerosis issues, state Rep. Bob Pritchard, R-Hinckley, recently received the Legislator of the Year award from the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National MS Society. The award recognizes the work of local, state and federal officials who make life better for people living with multiple sclerosis. Also receiving awards were state Sen. Linda Holmes, D-Aurora, and Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill.
Allison Genis, senior Girl Scout of Troop 941, completed the requirements for the Girl Scout Gold Award in May. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor in Girl Scouts. To earn this award, the Girl Scout must:

Voluntary Action Center hosted its annual countywide senior luncheon on Sept. 24 at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall in Sycamore.
Residents of Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center enjoyed a seven-week series devoted to reading the book, “A Long Way from Chicago,” by Richard Peck.
While many friends and community members make frequent donations of books, videos and other materials to the Kaneville Public Library for adding to its collections, exchanges with other libraries, or for its annual book sales, many people are unaware of other tax-deductible donations that can be made to the library.

Parents and caregivers in DeKalb County attended a presentation on Oct. 15 to hear Sarah Migas, Internet safety specialist from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office Computer Crime’s Division, speak on Internet safety.
Amid a light rain and a slate-gray sky, we hardly noticed the outdoor dining area that had been added to the front of Grandpa’s Place, nor even the renovated interior that scrubbed away any sense having been there before. Other restaurants have inhabited the same location on the outskirts of downtown Sycamore, and considering the dull weather, it was going to take more than a fresh, new look to brighten the moods of this trio of diners.
