Whole-hog sausage breakfast planned
Shoutfest 09 will begin at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1201 Twombly Road in DeKalb.
Women at the Well-DeKalb will begin its seventh year with a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the St. Mary Ministry Center Gymnasium, beginning with a light dinner followed by an inspirational program given by Kathy Berkes.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 900 Normal Road in DeKalb, will host its annual craft show from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall.
Santa may have workshops popping up all over Sycamore, as local businesses, churches and homes prepare to serve as collection points for Operation Christmas Child.

The 55th annual Women’s Fellowship of First Congregational Church Holiday Fruitcake Sale orders can be made after worship on Sunday on a sign-up sheet in the church narthex or by calling the church office at 815-758-0691, between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, or by leaving a message at that number.
Area shoppers will have an opportunity to purchase unique and unusual Christmas gifts and, at the same time, support small producers in the United States and abroad at the Second annual International Holiday Market at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk.
First United Methodist Women of DeKalb’s 54th Annual “Holiday Bazaar” will be held from 7:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. Nov. 7 at the church at Fourth and Oak streets.
Westminster Presbyterian Church of DeKalb invites community members who like “movies with a message” to view and discuss “Gran Torino” at 6 p.m. Sunday. This adult drama, starring Clint Eastwood as a surly, retired auto worker who gets drawn into the lives of his immigrant Hmong neighbors, is the second in Westminster’s Sunday evening Faith and Film Series.
Kishwaukee Bible Church and Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore-DeKalb will present a free concert by sacred music vocalists John and Mary Giger.
The Blackwood Brothers gospel quartet will appear at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Sycamore United Methodist Church.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church will present the first music recital of a new Artist Series at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1915 N. First St. in DeKalb. The concert will feature organist Jim Nerst-heimer and members of the Rockford Area Horn Club.

DeKalb Mayor Kris Povlsen was among the 287 people who participated in the 2009 Sondra King Memorial CROP Walk to end hunger.
Good Shepherd Lutheran School will host its Door to the Holiday Craft Fair from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 7 at 1111 Van St. in Elgin.
Malta United Methodist Church’s annual roast beef dinner will be served from 4:30-7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the church at South Third and Sprague streets.
On Oct. 4, the Community Interfaith CROP Walk was held to raise money for Church World Service and local food pantries.

A Rachel’s Vineyard inter-denominational retreat for post-abortion healing is scheduled for Oct. 23-25 at the Stronghold Retreat and Conference Center in Oregon, Ill.  
For the 55th year, Women’s Fellowship of First Congregational Church will fund their missions by baking their holiday fruitcakes.
Craig Fritz was a senior accounting major at Northern Illinois University when he heard that the Sycamore United Methodist Church was looking for an assistant organist. Two years later, he found himself the head organist and now he is observing his 25th anniversary in the position.

The Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb is providing a free, open-to-the-public showing of the award-winning documentary, “The Future of Food.”  
Fox Valley Jewish Neighbors is holding its next monthly Friday Night Shabbat service at 7 p.m. Friday. Immediately following the service, Lucy Marshall, a junior at St. Charles North High School, will give a presentation on her semester of study in Israel.
St. John Lutheran Church, 26555 Brickville Road in Sycamore, will host a Health and Wellness Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
Hinckley Methodist Church, 801 N. Sycamore St., will host an “Italian Feast” supper from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 21.
For many grieving people, Sunday can be the longest day of the week. While others may have church, family gatherings, sports activities or social events, those who have lost a loved one find this time difficult and lonely.
