DeKALB – The DeKalb girls bowling team has a cheer called ‘Follow the leader.’ It usually is heard after a strike to start a game, coach Bill Holland said.

DeKalb bowler Jessica Eberly averaged 203 for all 12 games to finish 34th of over 200 girls bowling at the state final tournament on Saturday at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford. Teammate Alyssa Mershon averaged 194 for the finals and finished 60th in individuals competition.

DeKALB – There’s something to be said for experience. The DeKalb girls bowling team has plenty of it at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford, the site of this weekend’s state meet.

DeKALB – DeKalb bowler Alyssa Mershon stood out from the crowd at Saturday’s DeKalb Sectional at Mardi Gras Lanes in DeKalb, which the Barbs won with a six-game score of 5,830.

Sycamore's Tony O'Donnell finished in 51st place at the boys state bowling tournament in O'Fallon. O'Donnell knocked down 2,434 pins for the state tournament, with a high game Saturday of 246.

The DeKalb girls bowling team finished in second place at Monday’s Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference tournament in Sterling. The Barbs finished with 6,385 pins, while Morris won with 6,528 pins.

The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op boys swimming team had the chance to compete in what coach Leah Eames called an “extremely old pool” Wednesday at Ottawa, complete with only four lanes.

The DeKalb girls basketball team scored the first 15 points of Tuesday’s game at Yorkville en route to a 59-38 victory.

The DeKalb girls bowling team captured second place at the Lark Park Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, finishing one pin shy of first-place Glenbard East, 5,550-5,549, and over 200 pins ahead of third-place Resurrection.

Underwood paces DeKalb girls bowling in victory

Hinckley-Big Rock’s girls basketball team got 24 points from senior forward Katie Hollis and 23 from senior guard Kaitlin Phillips in a 79-31 victory against LaMoille on Monday night.

Genoa-Kingston's boys basketball team defeated North Boone, 57-43, on Saturday night. Andrew Oplt led the Cogs (7-9, 2-1 Big Northern Conference) with 22 points including five three-pointers. Mason Lucca added 13 points.

Randi Maynard scored her 1,000th career point in Hiawatha’s 51-27 victory against Paw Paw on Thursday night in Kirkland.

It was a 50-48 at Richmond-Burton on Tuesday night, but Genoa-Kingston boys basketball coach Corey Jenkins said it's something his team can build off of.

Alyssa Lopez had a banner day at the Oswego Invitational, winning the all-around, floor exercise, vault, bars and beam in leading the DeKalb-Sycamore co-op girls gymnastics team to an invitational title.

The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op boys swimming team defeated McHenry, 108-60, on Tuesday.

Winless NIU men’s hoops plays host to Valparaiso

Courtney Patrick scored the first seven points for DeKalb’s girls basketball team Saturday night, and the Barbs held on for a 40-36 win against Providence Academy.

The Sycamore girls basketball team’s offense was rolling Thursday night, and a 54-32 win against Belvidere followed.

The DeKalb girls bowling team swept all three games against Dixon, 3,199-2,972, in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference meet.

Hinckley-Big Rock continued its strong start to the season with a 59-46 win Saturday against Byron. The Royals (7-1) jumped out to a 38-20 lead at halftime and never trailed in the second half.

DeKALB – Bill Holland said he wished he had more positive things to say. Aaron Williams took a more direct route.

Sycamore’s boys bowling team beat rival DeKalb, 3,455-3,269, on Thursday. Tony O’Donnell led the Spartans with a 691 series that included a high game of 263.

Hinckley-Big Rock’s boys basketball team defeated Stillman Valley, 56-41, to move to 4-1. The Royals jumped out to a 21-6 first-quarter lead and withstood a Stillman Valley run that cut the lead to eight.

The DeKalb girls basketball team got 10 points apiece from Taylor White and Rachel Torres, and the Barbs avenged their postseason loss last season with a 39-38 victory against Huntley in the Waubonsie Valley tournament.
