CHARLESTON – Sycamore collected four medals out of five finals entries at Saturday's Class 2A boys state track and field meet.

CHARLESTON – Sycamore senior runners Zach Aase and Erik Ruud glanced at the program for the IHSA Class 2A boys track and field state preliminaries and grinned.

Kory Harner grew up hearing about the Kaneland pole vault tradition from his two uncles, former Kaneland vaulters.

Indian Creek and Hinckley-Big Rock each had an athlete qualify for next weekend’s Class 1A boys track and field state meet out of Friday night’s Seneca Sectional.

DeKalb freshman Dre Brown took sixth in the long jump (20 feet) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.54) at Thursday's Class 3A Hononegah boys track sectional. The Barbs did not qualify any athletes for the state meet.

ROCHELLE – Before Thursday’s Class 2A Rochelle Sectional, Kaneland boys track and field coach Eric Baron projected his team to score 91 points.

DeKALB – During the 1,600-meter relay in Friday’s Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference boys track and field meet, one Kaneland athlete yelled “Let’s go Rochelle, get them!”

SYCAMORE – Dion Hooker didn’t used to think he was fast.

Jessica Coia had a hat trick in the Kaneland girls soccer team’s 7-0 win over Morris. Madi Jurcenko and Brittany Olson each scored twice for the Knights (9-4-1, 4-2-1 Northern Illinois Big 12).

Meranda Brashears and Brittany Huber each hit home runs in the Sycamore softball team's 6-0 win over Antioch. Claire Koertner was 1 for 2 with an RBI while Becca Schroeder went 1 for 2 for the Spartans.

The DeKalb girls track team finished in fourth place at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference track meet on Friday, scoring 66 points.

DeKalb’s Jaylaan Slaughter set a school record in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 26.07 seconds, to lead the DeKalb girls track team to a 71-45 victory against Sycamore on Tuesday.

The DeKalb girls badminton team took fourth place at the Independent Conference Meet with a record of 15-20.

SYCAMORE –  For the first time in Pete Piccony’s five years as head coach, the Sycamore Spartans won the Gib Seegars Track and Field Classic, their home invitational, on Friday. The Spartans scored 104 points, and second-place Marmion had 91.

The Sycamore baseball team got two RBIs from Nick Sullivan and the Spartans defeated Rochelle, 7-0, on Thursday.

The DeKalb girls track team won a dual meet Wednesday against Kaneland, 91-58.

Trevor Storck threw a complete game Tuesday for the Kaneland baseball team in a 3-2 win over Yorkville. He gave up six hits and walked a hitter while striking out two, improving his record to 4-0.

The Hinckley-Big Rock baseball team swept a doubleheader against Genoa-Kingston on Saturday, winning the first game in nine innings, 9-8, and the second game, 10-5.

SPOTLIGHT ON ...

Matt Godinsky hit a two-run home run, and John Beaudoin added a solo shot to give the Sycamore baseball team a 5-4 victory against Morris on Thursday.

Adam Price threw a complete game, striking out 10 and walking only two in a 5-4 win for the Genoa-Kingston baseball team Tuesday against North Boone.

DeKalb's Shaun Johnson threw a no-hitter to lead the DeKalb baseball team to an 11-0, six-inning victory against Belvidere on Saturday.

Delani Vest threw a complete-game shutout, striking out eight as the Kaneland softball team defeated Sycamore, 2-0, on Tuesday.

Kaneland's girls track team took second, DeKalb was third and Sycamore finished seventh at the 11-team Jill Holmes Invitational on Saturday at Kaneland.

KANELAND Coach: Eric Baron (seventh year)

When Hinckley-Big Rock high jumper Bill Weissinger approached the pit during his attempt at 6 feet, 6 inches in the Class 1A state finals last year, he pretended it was like any other jump.

The Kaneland boys track and field team dominated the Northern Illinois Big 12 Indoor Conference meet Saturday with 113.33 points, ahead of second-place Dixon (79 points), seventh-place DeKalb (27) and eighth-place Sycamore (26).

One of the more painful memories from my four years as a high school distance runner is having shin splints because of running on an indoor track.

At Saturday's Sterling indoor track meet, Indian Creek junior Kate Thuestad broke the school record in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 1 inch. Thuestad placed third in the event.

The Sycamore boys track team won a quadrangular home meet on Wednesday, scoring 83 points to best DeKalb (53), Dixon (42) and Plainfield East (16).

MAPLE PARK – Taylor Andrews knew what he had to do immediately after the gun sounded to win the 110-meter hurdles in the Class 2A track and field state meet.

CHARLESTON – Dubbed the “Three T’s” by their coaches, Kaneland seniors Taylor Andrews, Tommy Whittaker and Trevor Holm starred together all season.
