DeKALB – This is a rare week for the Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer team.

DeKALB – Flynn Collins could only stand and watch.

HINCKLEY – Hinckley-Big Rock had managed only two shots on goal with less than 15 minutes remaining in 1-all match with Earlville-Leland, and it seemed the Raiders were going to pull out the win Friday night.

The Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer team goes for the Class 1A Hinckley-Big Rock Sectional championship tonight against Little Ten Conference foe Earlville-Leland. H-BR advanced to the final with a 3-2 win against Genoa-Kingston, while Earlville-Leland dispatched Wilmington, 4-1.

HINCKLEY – Billy Weissinger can’t really run, or at least sprint. Sharp cuts on a calf muscle still recovering from a late-August rupture are almost out of the question.

DEKALB – Kaneland midfielder Alex Gil didn’t enter the second half of Tuesday’s regional semifinal game against DeKalb until about 10 minutes remaining because he had a fracture on the outside of his left foot.

HINCKLEY – Bernie Conley was pleased to see the Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer team advance to the sectional finals. So was H-BR coach Paul Taeuber.

The Sycamore soccer team lost, 3-1, to Marmion Academy in a Class 2A DeKalb Regional semifinal on Tuesday.

GENOA – The pleas and persuasions came at Chris Camargo from all directions last summer.

DeKalb sophomore Kelsey Schrader won the individual title at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference girls cross country meet at Geneseo on Saturday, leading the Barbs to a third-place finish.

AURORA – Hinckley-Big Rock’s boys soccer team scored its first goal just three minutes into the second half of Saturday's Class 1A Aurora Central Catholic Regional final.

WATERMAN – What was a back-and-forth Class 1A Indian Creek Regional championship boys soccer game between Genoa-Kingston and Indian Creek turned into an all-out brawl between the two teams with 12 minutes remaining, resulting in two ejections and Waterman police being called to the field to maintain order in an eventual 4-1 G-K victory.

The DeKalb volleyball team swept Rochelle, 25-12, 25-14, on Thursday at DeKalb’s “Volley for the Cure” night. DeKalb is 23-4 overall and 7-1 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference.

WATERMAN – Hiawatha had the fancy footwork and head-to-head win from earlier in the season, but neither fazed Indian Creek. The Timberwolves had a weapon the Hawks couldn’t match: someone blessed with height.

DeKALB – All throughout Tuesday, Trevor Freeland thought about ringing the victory bell outside DeKalb High School for winning a conference championship.

WATERMAN – Sure, the Genoa-Kingston soccer team beat Paw Paw, 8-0, on Tuesday in a Class 1A Indian Creek Regional semifinal, but the Cogs didn’t seem like a team that just won its first playoff game in a blowout.

There wasn’t much Indian Creek volleyball coach Stephanie Crutcher could do after the first set of her team’s match against Hinckley-Big Rock on Tuesday, except check it off to inconsistent play.

HINCKLEY – Hiawatha’s soccer team knocked in a goal with a few minutes remaining until halftime. It seemed possible that Reyman Solis’ goal would be all Hiawatha needed against Somonauk in Saturday's Little Ten Conference tournament championship.

An own goal and a lack of intensity contributed to a 2-1 Genoa-Kingston boys soccer loss to Harvard on Thursday.

SYCAMORE – The Sycamore boys soccer team tried to stick to defense, and in the end, deployed two forwards in its attack against an offense-heavy DeKalb on Wednesday.

DeKalb's boys golf team advanced four individuals out of the Class 3A Larkin Regional on Tuesday. Mason Struthers, Zack Price, Nick Bourdages and Matt Hoyle all moved on to Monday's Bartlett Sectional.

SPOTLIGHT ON ...

Hiawatha’s boys soccer team got two goals apiece from Reyman Solis, Pancho Garcia and Mark Mlodzianowski and the top-seeded Hawks advanced to the Little Ten Conference tournament semifinals with a 6-0 win against eight-seeded Serena on Monday at Hiawatha.

Hinckley-Big Rock's boys soccer team won its homecoming game, 5-0, against Sandwich. Bernie Conley scored four goals while Zach Michels rounded out the scoring for the Royals (8-7-3). Jared Madden, Christian Johnsen and Andy Valanduyt all recorded assists.

Hannah Knox served the final 15 points of Game 2 against Sterling, as the Sycamore volleyball team won in straight sets, 25-20, 25-5, on Thursday.

MAPLE PARK – The Kaneland soccer team can’t seem to beat DeKalb.

The Genoa-Kingston girls volleyball team rallied from a 12-4 deficit in Game 2 to sweep Harvard, 25-15, 25-23.

SYCAMORE – It wasn’t the best day for either side, but the Kaneland boys soccer team beat Sycamore, 2-0, in sloppy weather Tuesday.

Hawks stay unbeaten in LTC with blowout road victory

The DeKalb girls cross country team, led by first-place overall finisher Kelsey Schrader, won the East Peoria Invitational on Saturday.

The Hinckley-Big Rock girls volleyball team had little trouble in beating Somonauk, 25-8, 25-19, on Thursday.

The DeKalb boys and girls cross country teams both took first in the Byron Invitational on Wednesday.

DeKALB – Brent McIntosh feels his team has started to figure out its home field.

The Genoa-Kingston volleyball team beat North Boone in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, to get its first Big Northern Conference win of the season Tuesday night.

The Hinckley-Big Rock volleyball team got eight kills and 10 digs from Kaitlin Phillips, and the Royals swept Plano, 25-15, 25-20 on Monday.

Indian Creek beats Hinckley-Big Rock in shootout

Sycamore announced the newest inductees into its athletic Hall of Fame. The newest members include: Elmer Troutman, Justin Wilson, Dean Copple and the 1960 football team.

The IHSA announced regional assignments for all fall sports (except football, of course) on Friday.
