BARTLETT – Mason Struthers played a couple practice rounds at Bartlett Hills and was his usual, smooth self, shooting in the 70s.

ST. CHARLES – The numbers kept going through Sycamore boys golf coach Dave Burdick’s head.

SYCAMORE – As the assistant PGA golf professional at Sycamore Golf Club and the host of Tuesday’s Class 2A Sycamore Regional, Sycamore boys golf coach Dave Burdick set up the pins for the postseason opener.

DeKalb's boys golf team advanced four individuals out of the Class 3A Larkin Regional on Tuesday. Mason Struthers, Zack Price, Nick Bourdages and Matt Hoyle all moved on to Monday's Bartlett Sectional.

SYCAMORE – Compete long enough and the law of averages suggests a good break will eventually happen.

Hinckley-Big Rock's boys soccer team won its homecoming game, 5-0, against Sandwich. Bernie Conley scored four goals while Zach Michels rounded out the scoring for the Royals (8-7-3). Jared Madden, Christian Johnsen and Andy Valanduyt all recorded assists.

ELBURN – Rain peppered the Hughes Creek Golf Course as Hinckley-Big Rock’s Luke Winkle faced off against Somonauk’s top shooter in a playoff in the Little Ten Conference Meet on Wednesday.

YORKVILLE – In terms of celebrating, Kaneland acted more like it lost a conference title than won it.

Indian Creek scored three times in each half to beat Serena, 6-2, on Wednesday in boys soccer.

The DeKalb girls cross country team, led by first-place overall finisher Kelsey Schrader, won the East Peoria Invitational on Saturday.

The Hinckley-Big Rock girls volleyball team had little trouble in beating Somonauk, 25-8, 25-19, on Thursday.

The DeKalb boys and girls cross country teams both took first in the Byron Invitational on Wednesday.

The Genoa-Kingston volleyball team beat North Boone in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, to get its first Big Northern Conference win of the season Tuesday night.

The IHSA announced regional assignments for all fall sports (except football, of course) on Friday.

SPOTLIGHT ON ...

Sycamore’s boys golf team edged out Kaneland, 154-157, in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference East showdown Tuesday.

With four players out because of illness or injury, the Sycamore girls tennis team managed to get a 5-1 victory Monday against Hononegah.

DeKalb's Marc Dubrick finished 11th overall in the Class AA race at the Woodruff Cross Country Invitational and the Barbs finished 12th, while Kaneland was ninth and Sycamore was 22nd in the 47-team race at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

Kaneland got five golfers to finish under 48 to help the Knights’ boys team beat Hinckley-Big Rock, 172-199, on Wednesday at Hughes Creek in Elburn.

In a dual meet that came down to the 4x100-yard relay, the DeKalb-Sycamore co-op girls swimming team pulled out the victory to beat Ottawa, 50-44, on Thursday.

Sycamore’s strong start to its girls tennis season continued with a 5-2 win against Harlem on Wednesday.

Genoa-Kingston’s boys golf team beat Hinckley-Big Rock at home Monday, 160-211, a season-best score for the Cogs. G-K was led by Mason Lucca and Alex Pieowski, who were medalists after posting a season-best 41. Jake Langford added a 43.

The Sycamore volleyball team dropped a straight-set match on Thursday to Marian Central, losing 25-16, 26-24, at Sycamore.

Jon Nugent, Tony O’Donnell and Kyle Buzzard all shot 39s and the Sycamore boys golf team beat DeKalb, 157-169, on Wednesday at Sycamore Golf Club.

Kristen Westbrook had seven digs and seven kills and the Indian Creek volleyball team swept Amboy, 25-15, 25-18 on Tuesday night in Shabbona.

DeKALB – The DeKalb, Geneva and Larkin boys golf teams all tallied a score of 334 at the Kishwaukee Invite on Monday at Kishwaukee Country Club.

Mason Struthers shot a 78 and Matt Hoyle added a 79 to lead the DeKalb boys golf team to an eighth-place finish in the Geneva Invite on Thursday at Mill Creek.

The DeKalb boys golf team took sixth place in the Larkin Invite at the The Highlands Golf Course in Elgin. The Barbs finished with a team score of 325. Oak Park won the event with a score of 303.

The Sandwich boys golf team shot a 329 to win the Bobcat-Indian Invite on Tuesday, with the Indians placing five of the top 15 golfers individually.

Nick Bourdages shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish in fourth place to lead the DeKalb boys golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Boylan Invite on Monday at Ledges Golf Course in Roscoe.
