DeKALB – Winning high school state championships is nothing new to Ken and Derek Leonard.
DeKALB – The Lena-Winslow football team won its second Class 1A state title Friday, defeating Downs Tri-Valley, 28-21, in the state finals. The Panthers gave the Daily Chronicle all-access from their arrival Thursday in DeKalb on through their victory celebration in the locker room Friday afternoon.
DeKALB – For Stillman Valley football coach Mike Lalor, making the trip down to Champaign for the IHSA State Football Championships was somewhat of a ritual.

LOMBARD – Sycamore’s seniors, led by players like Ben Niemann and Devin Mottet, accomplished so much within the Spartan program, but for the second year in a row the season ended with a loss at Montini.
Joe Scianna will sit in the stands for Sycamore football home games and instantly recognize the Spartans’ offensive plays.
The final moments of last year’s second-round loss against Montini re-emerged as Sycamore watched film in preparation for this afternoon’s long-anticipated rematch with the Broncos in Lombard.

DeKALB – With less than a week to go, Debbie Armstrong knows DeKalb County is primed for two days of high school football state championship games expected to draw 30,000 fans.
On any given Sunday, an analyst on an NFL broadcast will discuss injuries a team has had on its offensive line and how players have found themselves playing different positions than they’re accustomed to, and how difficult the transition can be.

MAPLE PARK – The Kaneland football team's offense has been elite for years. The Knights' defense has caught up in recent seasons, and Gary Koehring has been right in the middle of that development.
From observing the Sycamore football team just before an afternoon practice starts, it’d be hard to tell the Spartans were under any pressure and in the midst of one of the best seasons in school history.

GENESEO – The Genoa-Kingston football team certainly had its chances.
SYCAMORE — Sycamore football held a 28-point lead at halftime, but Antioch made things interesting with some trick plays in the second half.
BATAVIA – Bright yellow signs lined the fence by the south end zone Friday night at Batavia High School.
BATAVIA – On the second play from scrimmage, DeKalb junior running back Dre Brown found a hole up the middle and took a handoff 69 yards for a touchdown and, he hoped, a momentum-builder.
MAPLE PARK – Kaneland’s defense held the Hampshire football team scoreless for the first time this season, blanking the Whip-Purs, 35-0, Friday night in the opening round of the IHSA Class 5A playoffs.

Genoa-Kingston was crushed. Hopes of a Big Northern Conference East title and clinching its first playoff berth in three seasons disappeared with one play in Week 8.
SYCAMORE – One second, Sycamore senior Nick Feuerbach was sprinting down the sideline late in the second quarter of last week’s football game against Kaneland, stretching his arms out to make a 30-yard catch. The next, he was ripping off his gloves and entering the game at quarterback for Devin Mottet, who had been injured on a run a few plays earlier.
