NIU golfers advance to U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship

On Wednesday, NIU seniors Andrew Frame and Tim Kay placed first and second in the United States Golf Association Amateur Public Links Qualifying tournament held at the Oak Club of Genoa. As a result, Frame and Kay earned spots in the field at the U.S. Amateur Public Links (APL) Championship, which will be held July 13-18 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

Frame shot even-par 142 on the par-71, 6,553-yard Oak Club course to win the sectional and advance to the U.S. APL Championship. He finished one stroke ahead of his NIU teammate Kay, who fired rounds of 72-71 to come in with a one-over-par 143. The Huskies almost made it a clean sweep out of their sectional as fellow Huskie senior Matt Triplett tied for fourth at the event with a five-over 147. He is the second alternate as the top three finishers in Genoa will play at the national tournament.
