Northern Illinois safety Jimmie Ward was named a first-team All-American by USA Today on Wednesday. Quarterback Jordan Lynch, a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, was named to the second team.

Ward finished the regular season with a team-high 89 tackles and six interceptions, which led the Mid-American Conference.

Lynch ranks fourth in the nation when it comes to total offense at 351 yards per game and is second in the country with 1,881 rushing yards.
