Police plan enforcement blitz on area routes
By DAILY CHRONICLE
DeKALB – Motorists on Route 23 and Route 47 this weekend will need to mind their manners – and the traffic laws – or they might wind up with a court date.
Illinois State Police have announced they and several local police agencies will conduct an enforcement blitz on Route 23 through DeKalb and McHenry counties today, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
They'll follow up with similar increased presence Sunday on Route 47 through Kane and McHenry counties.
Police said the focus of the blitz will be to reduce crashes and fatalities by cracking down on what police called the "Fatal Five" traffic offenses, including driving while intoxicated, speeding, improper lane usage, following too close and seat belt or child restraint violations.
Local agencies involved in today's operation include DeKalb, Sycamore and Genoa police departments.
