Sycamore United Methodist will host the Blackwood Brothers in concert on Wednesday.

Members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Blackwood Brother’s Quartet has been in existence for more than 70 years, and many gospel music greats have come through the Blackwood organization, including Larry Ford and Ken Turner.

This eight-time Grammy-award winning gospel group now has as its lead singer Jimmy Blackwood, who has been in the group since 1970. The nucleus of the quartet until 2002 was his father, James Blackwood.

Longtime pianist and showman Brad White, and the tenor/bass combination of Wayne Little and Randy Byrd, comprise the rest of the quartet. The quartet also regularly appear with the Gaithers.

The group will perform at 7 p.m. This event is part of an ongoing concert series partially funded by a bequest from longtime SUMC choir member Jessie Viner. A freewill offering will be taken for the group, and CDs will be for sale.

The youth of the church are sponsoring a spaghetti dinner, starting at 5:30 p.m., to help fund their summer mission trip. This also will be on a free-will basis.

The church is located at 160 Johnson Ave., off Route 64. For information, call the office at 815-895-9113.
