Body found on tracks

By CARRIE FRILLMAN - cfrillman@daily-chronicle.com

A person died Wednesday after being hit by a train just outside the city of DeKalb.

Details about the individual including name, age and gender were not immediately available following the accident, which was called in to police at 2:56 p.m. by the train's conductor, said DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott. The body was found at 3:14 p.m. near the train tracks just west of the city limits of DeKalb.

The accident happened between Glidden and Nelson roads when the person jumped in front of the train, Scott said. The train was still stopped on the tracks around 4:30 p.m., according to police radio transmissions.

Wednesday's was the third fatal train versus pedestrian accident in DeKalb County this year. Also, three people were killed just across the county line in rural Leland, when their vehicle was hit by a train in July.
