DeKALB – Residents and travelers on the east side of DeKalb will have another place to fuel up before winter is out.

A new Mobil gas station and convenience store is under construction at 1740 E. Lincoln Highway, on the site of a former Marathon gas station. The new building's masonry is up, and the station is expected to open sometime in the next two to three months, owner Jamal Chaudhary said.

The Marathon station closed in 2005, and the site has stood dormant since then.

Chaudhary said he owns several other similar gas stations in Illinois.

"I am a business man, and I felt this was a good location to build something," he said.

The new station is the second to open on the city's east side in the past year. A Shell station opened on a vacant lot near the corner of Seventh and Oak streets late last year.
