SYCAMORE — Bail was set Friday at $75,000 for a man who police say fired gunshots Monday night in the 900 block of Spiros Court.
Jarrett Usher, 18, who lives in University Plaza in DeKalb but is listed as having a home address in Chicago, faces charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, reckless conduct and theft.
Police were called to Spiros Court just after 9:30 p.m. Monday to investigate reports of gunshots fired nearby, according to a police report.
Usher was identified through detectives reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, according to court documents.
Witnesses reported that two groups of males were arguing in the parking lot on that block, DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said. One, later identified as Usher, reportedly pulled out a .380-caliber handgun and fired, according to witness accounts in court documents.
At the scene, police found evidence that a shot was fired, the documents said. No one was hit or injured and no property was damaged in the incident, Spangler said.
Court documents indicate that Usher was seen on the surveillance footage entering an apartment in Spiros Court just after the shot was fired. He then comes back out, wearing different clothing.
Usher admitted to police that he was at the scene and identified himself in the video, the documents said, but he denied being the shooter.
He faces a theft charge because police believe he stole a wallet valued at less than $300. The victim reported her wallet stolen earlier in the week and its contents were found in Usher's apartment, Spangler said.
His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 4.
